Reformed Heathcare! You can barely go a week without hearing something on this topic. It is definitely one of the largest issues before the Congress, Employers, and We The People. Our local SHRM student chapter will address this issue head on.
Organizations across the country have been creative with devising innovative employee wellness programs to reduce their increase in healthcare costs and health benefits. The students will present statistics on how much organizations spend on Healthcare benefits and provide examples of what various organizations are doing to reduce them. They will also share the types of roles that HR is undertaking, such as Exercise Specialists, to assist employees across the organization as well as the bottom-line .
This is a great meeting to show your support of our student members. In addition we encourage you to come with questions and be willing to share your examples of what is going on in your organization with this timely topic.
Student Chapter Speakers:
Jenessa Meng - VP of Merit Awards
Jenessa Meng is a first-year student at the Atkinson Graduate School of Management. Jenessa received her Bachelor of Arts degree in General Management and Human Resources at Portland State University and plans to pursue her interests in Human Resource Management while attending the MBA program. Her career interests include employment and labor law, HR consulting, and recruiting. Jenessa also likes to travel, play flag football and to cook.
Emily Elliott - 1st Year SHRM Representative
Emily Elliott is a first-year student at the Atkinson Graduate School of Management. She is enrolled in Willamette University’s dual-degree program (BA/MBA) and will receive her bachelor’s in 2010, followed by her MBA in 2011. Her bachelor’s degree will be in International Studies with a minor in Spanish. Emily previously spent five months studying at the University of Granada in Granada, Spain. She hopes to work in corporate event planning.
Yameen Ali - MBA Candidate 2011
Yameen spent 11 years working in the non-profit and government sectors in a variety of fields including microcredit, technology, government administration and policy analysis. He is now transitioning to the private sector with interests in Social Venture Capital and Management Consulting. Yameen is currently a graduate MBA student at Willamette University's Aktinson School of Management.
